I like it - didn’t know the amputation idea before. But there’s something to be said for the dissolution of our human identity as technology evolves.

I have this metamorphosis idea that needs fleshing out, which this matches neatly with:

1. Consider the capacity for abstraction the core trait of the I

2. As our bodies becomes increasingly insufficient interface to our surroundings, we start transforming from creatures defined by our biology to creatures defined by our limited agency as meat blobs.

3. The Earth constitutes an egg to the yolk of potential agency that is humanity. Either we are incubating and must evolve into some sort of von Neumann machines to break the shell of the egg, or devolve back into relative stability of the egg in the fridge.

This is the pattern I see evolving - we extend capacities into our surroundings and leave our body identification to become…radically altered….a civilisation of Muppet Show/Sesame Street/Tranformers characters evoving at breakneck speed, all to go beyond our intrinsically exposed birthplace, the Pale Blue Dot

Loved this one. I’ve spent four months thinking/writing from the beach in Goa at the intersection of my psyche (jungian-version, it turns out, but was not my intention) and the evolution of AI. I’ve got so much material and am cohering it. What you so well name in here captures points that also significantly resonated with me. I have theories!!
